The Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park, located in historic Fell’s Point in Baltimore, is an African American maritime history museum and destination. The park is operated by The Living Classrooms Foundation, a non-profit educational organization. The focus of the park, as the name suggests, is Frederick Douglass, the famous African American Marylander who lived in Baltimore both as a slave and a free man and Isaac Myers, a free born African American who went on to become a national leader in a time when opportunities were extremely limited. The park also focuses on the founding of the Chesapeak Marine Railway and Dry Dock Company, the rich shipbuilding tradition in Baltimore and around the Chesapeake Bay and the establishment of African American communities in Baltimore during the 19th century. While the park features a wide variety of artifacts, archaeological discoveries, artistic renderings and other items related to the history of Baltimore and the African American community therein, the facilities at the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park are also perfect for a wide variety of events.
