The Engineers Club of Baltimore, founded in 1905, was initially envisioned as a meeting place for engineers to exchange ideas and knowledge. Alfred Quick, the club’s founder, started the club with 32 charter members shortly after the great Baltimore fire of 1904, and operated out of the Women’s Exchange Building. In 1911, the club moved to the Arundel Club Building and then ten years later moved again to the Commerce Trust Building at Light and Redwood Streets. Finally, after leasing the building for two years, the Engineers Club purchased Garret-Jacobs Mansion in Mount Vernon, where it remains today. And, while the club was originally designated as one for engineers, the modern version accepts members from a wide variety of professions. The Club, with its beautifully appointed rooms and stately elegance, is also a popular setting for events, including weddings, receptions, rehearsals, networking events and ceremonies.
